The most common question we get is some version of: what can Lefover actually see about my finances? Here’s the plain-language version. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
What we see
When you connect a bank account, Lefover receives:
- Your transaction history for that account (cleared and pending transactions, with merchant names, amounts, dates, and pending status), up to two years of it.
- Your running balance on the account.
- Account metadata (type: checking or credit; the last four digits of the account number).
From the inflow pattern, we detect the income that repeats. From the outflow pattern, we detect recurring bills. That’s how the safe-to-spend math works.
We also see information you give us directly: the email address you signed up with, the region and preferences you set, and any support messages you send.
What we never see
- Your bank password. It goes directly from you to your bank during the connection step. We never receive it.
- Your full account number. In most cases we only see the last four digits.
- Your routing number. Not shared.
- Authority to move money. The connection is read-only. We can’t transfer money, pay bills, or change anything about your account.
- Two-factor authentication codes. The codes go to your bank, not us.
What we do with what we see
Two things. That’s the list:
- Math. We use your transaction and balance data to calculate your safe-to-spend number, detect recurring bills, and find the income your cycles anchor to.
- Notifications. When something we detect is worth telling you about, we send a notice: a new bill, a bill whose amount changed, a late bill, new income, late income, a bank connection that needs attention, a credit card crossing the alert level you set, a goal reminder, an outgoing transfer we spotted, or a purchase that matches money you set aside. Every one of those is a switch you control.
What we never do with what we see
- We never sell your financial data. Not anonymized, not aggregated, not for “product improvement.” Ever.
- We never share it with advertisers. No data goes to advertising networks or data brokers.
- We never use it for purposes other than running Lefover. No “we’ll analyze your spending for our research” arrangement.
Where the data lives
Your data is stored in the region where you signed up: US data in the US, Canadian data in Canada, UK data in the UK. It does not cross borders.
